Simón Bolívar Park received Ecological Blue Flag

June 7, 2017 by Staff News Writer

On June 5th, Simón Bolívar National Park and Botanical Garden received the Ecological Blue Flag in the Urban Microbasins category. The recognition was raised by the children of the Unified School Republic of Peru-Vitalia Madrigal.

The activity took place within the framework of World Environment Day and was attended by residents of Barrio Amón, officials of the Pro Zoological Foundation and students of a first grade group of the mentioned school.

In order to obtain this certification, a long process was carried out. It began with the diagnosis of the Torres River path corresponding to the Zoological Park and the Simón Bolívar National Botanical Garden.

Then they made an inventory of the flora on both banks of the river, campaigns for the improvement of the body of water and environmental education through workshops and talks to different groups.

Obtaining the Ecological Blue Flag implies a commitment for the Pro Zoological Foundation, in the search for alliances with other committees as well as in the continuity in the realization of campaigns for the improvement of the body of water in conjunction with nearby communities.
