Small ash plume above Turrialba Volcano

March 27, 2017 by Staff News Writer

OVSICORI

Turrialba Volcano resumed ash emission after several weeks of silence.

According to the latest report from the National Volcanological and Seismological Observatory (OVSICORI), the colossus has been emitting a small plume of diluted ash since dawn on Sunday.

The activity has been almost continuous, rising to less than 500 meters above the crater and traveling towards the south and the southeast.

During the last weeks, the volcano has been in a kind of external calm, but internally it has remained active, according to reports by OVSICORI.

This is completely normal and it has already happened on other occasions during the last time of greater activity of the volcano.
