Experts are warning that tanning or outdoor exercise should be performed with extreme caution during this month. According to estimates from the National Meteorological Institute (IMN), March will present one of the highest levels of ultraviolet (UV) radiation during the year.

Solar radiation will be highest in Costa Rica on March 21st, as the vernal or spring equinox will bring the suns rays perpendicular to the ground in this part of the world.

In Costa Rica, UV radiation is also highest on days with lower cloud cover. Guanacaste, Central Pacific and the central valley have the highest levels of radiation. From 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, solar radiation is most intense. During this time you should avoid overexposure to the sun’s rays. Experts recommend the use of sunscreen and hydration to prevent permanent health problems.
