Soler: “the bike path project will continue”

March 21, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Municipality of Montes de Oca will not stop working on the the bike path demarcation in the canton.

Mayor Marcel Soler said that they ratified the project, despite a request made by the City Council of not continuing it until some roads were fixed.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT), as well as the municipalities of San José and Montes de Oca, announced the construction of the bike path, which will connect La Sabana with San Pedro. It will have an extension of almost 13 kilometers.

In Barrio Dent road surfing marking had already started, but it has caused annoyance among drivers who question its usefulness, as it generates road chaos. They also question the lack of vertical and horizontal signs.

However, Mayor Soler explained that this is an on-going project, so it is necessary to complete this process.

Although the project is only one, San José and Montes de Oca municipalities divided their tasks.

The Municipality of Montes de Oca started the works this month in the section that runs from the Law School at the UCR to Universidad Hispanoamericana, in Barrio Escalante. It currently has a 53-million-colones budget.

The Municipality of San José started the demarcation at 7th Avenue, 37th Street (Barrio Escalante). To this end, the municipality allocated 60 million colones of its 2017 budget.
