Solís regrets departure of US ambassador

January 11, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The decision of the government of Donald Trump of removing several US ambassadors from their positions (including Fitzgerald Haney, based in Costa Rica) is something that the Executive prefers not to comment on. But they do regret having to say good bye.

President Luis Guillermo Solís highlighted the virtues of the diplomat, who will leave his position once Trump takes office on January 20th.

Haney became a vital part for Costa Rica to obtain cooperation from Barack Obama and his administration in a little over a year in the country.

He has achieved agreements between our countries on support for security and human development programs, thanks to his contacts in the Congress and the White House,”

said the Costa Rican president.

The accolades poured by Solís demonstrate the affection he has for the US ambassador, especially because he believes that Haney felt like a Costa Rican from the first day he started working here.
