On Saturday, President Luis Guillermo Solís went for a bike ride in downtown San José to raise awareness of respect for cyclists, but criticism rained on him.
He published a video on his Twitter profile, riding a bicycle with his youngest daughter, Inés.
Users criticized him for having escorts and for practicing the sport on a Saturday, when there is no traffic.
One user said
Do it on rush hours and then we’ll talk. He’s starting to act like Maduro, doing unsual things [for a President].”
Another user stated Solís was acting like a populist ruler,
but if he’s going with that, at least he should do it a couple of times a week, to look less fat.”
The activity was organized by Chepecletas in order to demand respect for cyclists and it’s held once a month.
