President Luis Guillermo Solís addressed five central topics at the Tuxtla Summit and gave especial attention to the economic empowerment of women.
During the Summit of Heads of State and Government, Solís also based his proposal on migration, climate change, nuclear disarmament and public-private alliances.
However, Solís addressed equity and equality as a paramount issue. Weeks ago, he presented the report on this issue, prepared with a group at the United Nations.
Solís invited the countries of the Mesoamerican region to accept the recommendations in the report, including the promotion of economic policies and fiscal inclusion.
I respectfully encourage you to accept the recommendations in this report and take concrete actions to accelerate progress towards the full and active participation of women,”
stated Solís at the Summit.
According to ECLAC data, female labor force participation in Latin America has stagnated around 53% and 78% of them are employed in sectors of low productivity accompanied by low wages. These numbers make the Costa Rican representative ask to pay attention to the issue, thinking about breaking down the barriers for women to be economically empowered.
In addition, Solís was emphatic that gender violence should not be ignored since it is a situation that affects all countries.
