Solís will be incapacitated for 22 days after prostate surgery

October 18, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The prostate surgery performed on Tuesday morning to President Luis Guillermo Solís was a success, according to the statement by doctors at La Católica Hospital.

According to Dr. Mario González, they started at 8:30 a.m. and took about two hours to complete the surgery. Now the President will take from two to three weeks to return to his duties in the office.

The next 48 hours are key to determining the evolution of the patient, which we believe will be good for the success of the surgery,”

said Dr. González.

In addition, they recommend he does not lift weight for a month.

What doctors did was removing part of the prostate through the bladder. The problem of the president was a benign growth of the prostate, a normal ailment in men after 40 old.

Now the president must follow a special diet to lose weight, exercise and rest to avoid side effects of the surgery.

Solís entrusted his responsibilities during this time to Vice President Helio Fallas.

This time of procedures cost nearly two million colones, which were paid from the President’s pocket.

Solís will leave the medical center this Friday.
