Stem cells use will be regulated

November 13, 2016 by Staff News Writer

From now on, public and private establishments that want to apply stem cell treatments will have to meet a number of requirements to the Ministry of Health. These therapies will now be applied based on criteria that were set by the Ministry of Health on Decree 39986-S.

Among the criteria for the authorization, a scientifically-reasoned justification about the chances of a successful treatment is needed. Specialists need to justify its use compared to existing treatments.

In addition, therapies with adult stem cells to be used by the same patient, for regenerative purposes, will also be regulated.

The establishments that obtained permits in May 2008, will keep those authorizations during the time given to them.
