June 19, 2017 by Staff News Writer

On Saturday, Border police arrested a Costa Rican man named Picado for crime of human trafficking, after guiding three Nicaraguans to Costa Rica.

According to the authorities’ report, the Costa Rican attempted to take foreigners to downtown Los Chiles, passing through an unauthorized border area, in the Tablillas sector.

The Nicaraguans named Pérez, Rodríguez and Pérez assured the police that Picado had collected several thousand colones to take them to a safe place and away from immigration controls.

Rodríguez showed proof of residency in Costa Rica. However, the authorities could not verify the document, so they were all taken to the Public Prosecutor’s Office in San Carlos.

Meanwhile, in the Peñas Blancas sector in La Cruz Guanacaste, another Nicaraguan man was arrested and taken to the Liberia Prosecutor’s Office for carrying a false document when he was approached by the police.
