Temporary house arrest for Panamanian ex-dictator Manuel Antonio Noriega

January 24, 2017 by Staff News Writer

According to lawyer Ezra Ángel, in order to have a brain tumor surgery, Panamanian justice has granted a temporary house arrest to Panamanian ex-dictator Manuel Antonio Noriega, who serves a 20-year sentence for the disappearance of opponents during his government (1983-1990).

The Supreme Court of Justice would have taken into account the doctors’ recommendations to accept the temporary change.

Noriega has a benign tumor in the brain, that’s the reason why his relatives had requested that he is transferred to his house to properly prepare for the operation.

Defeated after a bloody US military invasion in 1989, Noriega was imprisoned for drug trafficking and money laundering in the United States and France, which extradited him to Panama in 2011.

The family members have repeatedly asked to be granted final house arrest to Noriega, who has suffered several strokes, lung complications, prostate cancer and depression.

However, such requests have been denied.
