Territorio de Zaguates employee was attacked with a machete for defending dogs

March 6, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Unknown subjects attacked an employee from Territorio de Zaguates with a machete, after he caught them inside the premises of the entity on Monday night.

According to Álvaro Saumet, owner of the animal shelter, a collaborator saw three masked subjects 100 meters from the barns,

so he chased them and managed to capture one, but another one approached with a machete and attacked him in the hand. Then the men, who were wearing balaclavas, fled in a white Mitsubishi L300 minibus in poor condition and without license plates. I chased them to Alajuela, but I lost track of them,”

said Saumet.

Saument already went to the Public Force to file the complaint and called 911 to report the case. The owner of Territorio de Zaguates said that this situation is not new, as something similar happened on Sunday, when nine dogs were poisoned and then died.

That same night the same employee saw two people who -apparently- poisoned seven dogs that are now in critical conditions.”

Saumet commented that it is unbelievable these situations occur simply for trying to help street dogs.

The guys do not have to suffer this kind of things and neither do the dogs. It’s not their fault. I do not know who is interested in hurting this place… I do not see the point of cruelty against street animals. More than 60 animals have been poisoned in eight months,”

denounced Saumet.
