The CCSS was certified by the WHO

February 21, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The World Health Organization (WHO) certified that the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) has the technical and equipment capacity to assist at least 100 people in a day if there’s an emergency or disaster situation. It can do so anywhere in national territory or abroad.

In order to obtain the international certification, the existence and correct application of protocols and procedures for medical and obstetric care that are required in emergency or disaster situations were verified. The profiles of the staff in charge of these situations were also verified.

The institution took advantage of the existence of the mobile hospital, which was acquired in October 2016 and allowed to support the health area of Upala in the wake of hurricane Otto.

The CCSS became the first institution in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the seventh institution around the world, to receive this certification.
