The CCSS will analyze Technical Abortion Standard on Thursday

December 11, 2019 by Staff News Writer

During the ordinary session of the Board of Directors of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) that will be held on Thursday, the members will analyze the Technical Standard for Therapeutic Abortion sent by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday.

Mario Ruiz, Medical Manager of the institution, explained that the legal team will present the managers with an analysis and observations on the norm; being clear that their criteria is not binding.

On conscientious objection, Ruiz avoided giving more details and clings to the fact that medical personnel have a great sense of commitment and ethics to attend to all insured.

The document establishes a protocol so that, at the request of the patient or the recommendation of the doctors, the assessment and interruption of the pregnancy is carried out when the life of the mother is at risk.

The deadline for the CCSS to send its response expires this Friday.
