The crocodile hunted on Good Friday died before Saturday

April 18, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The crocodile hunted on Good Friday in the traditional “lagarteada” of Ortega, in Santa Cruz, Guanacaste, died before Saturday.

It should be mentioned that the animal was introduced on Friday in a pool, as it has been done for many years. However, when people went to change its water on Saturday morning, the animal was already dead.

The Animal Welfare Network and the Animal Welfare Federation of Costa Rica indicated that the well-known “lagarteada” , held every year in Ortega de Santa Cruz, is an illegal activity, despite a ruling by the Constitutional Chamber which allows it.
