The earth literally swallowed the road by at kilometer 31 in the Interamericana Sur, in the place known as “la chatarrera”. Therefore, the transit between Palmar and Rio Claro is closed. The Traffic authorities requested people to use the alternate routes Paso Real-San Vito-Ciudad Neily, which is enabled only for light vehicles.

Videos that were shared by users of the road and neighbors of the area in social networks show the moment when part of the unstable land yielded, as a result of the heavy rains that hit the area during the afternoon-night of Saturday and dawn of Sunday.

At the moment teams work in the area to try to enable at least one lane, according to Julio Duarte, head of the Transit Police in the area.
