The electronic invoice is commendatory!

March 22, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The use of the electronic invoice is commendatory and its implementation will be progressively extended in the Costa Rican population..

It is a digital document generated from the sale of a good or service and that records the data of the transaction, whether in national or foreign currency, with the information in Spanish, though.

According to German Morales, Deloitte’s Tax Associate, there are three ways toregister. The first is through a document prepared in the printing press, with the specifications requested by the tax authorities. The second way is through the post system, which is made with a computerized system, and the third one is through the new electronic system that, unlike the others, is not printed.

Citizens can choose any of them, but The Treasury wants the electronic invoice to be commendatory, which means that all the computer systems must be adapted,

informed Morales.

It should be noted that in the country there are several companies duly registered in Taxation and provide the electronic billing service, which have the technology to certify the information.

According to the specialist, the mechanism is a good regulatory tool that will allow to reduce costs, improve tax efficiency, because thanks to the information generated, authorities will be able to know what was sold, how much was invoiced, etc.

The benefits of using electronic invoices include the elimination of storage spaces, the loss of information over time, the reduction of information and administrative processing costs.

Electronic invoices must be kept for a 5-year period in accordance with the provisions of the Tax Notes and Procedures Code. In addition, only one of the company legal, accredited representatives must provide its electronic signature.

It contains information from the issuer and the receiver, such as the name of the individual or legal entity, the number of the certificate, address, email, telephone, as well as the corresponding to the good or service purchased.
