The initiative to transform the DIS is progressing

August 19, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The Legislative Assembly’s commission on Security and Drug Trafficking ruled in favour of the proposed project for the transformation of the Intelligence and National Security Office (DIS) into the Strategic Intelligence Office (DIEN).

The DIEN will serve as a guiding and specialized institution in this matter.
However, it won’t follow any discriminatory actions based on politics, sexual orientation or nationality, and it won’t interfere in political parties’ internal affairs or perform repressive actions.

The chairman of the legislative committee explained that the most important part of the project is that the intelligence services included a complete modernization and professionalization and that DIEN will not be used as a police political spy but for the State’s security.

The initiative now goes to the plenary to be discussed and voted.
