From October 6th to October 8th, 21 delegates from Central America and the Caribbean and other countries, including parliamentarians, religious leaders, journalists, women leaders and representatives from the civil society participated in the International Leadership Conference (ILC) to promote peace.
The event was held in the Radisson Hotel and it was organized by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) and about 300 people discussed issues such as the critical challenges of our time, the role of governments, civil society and faith-based organizations.
Daisy Salas, spokesperson of the event, explained that this activity was part of a series of regional conferences planned in the ILC held in Korea from February 12th to February 16th, 2016, attended by over 800 participants from around the world, including 150 parliamentarians from 40 countries. During the meeting, the implementation of the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace was proposed.
Similar meetings will be also held in Africa, South America, Europe and Asia. The organizers are planning a world meeting with all parliamentarians in Washington DC, USA by the end of 2016.
Among those invited to this event there were doctor Thomas G. Walsh, president of the UPF Internacional, doctor Charles S. Yang, Director of the UPF Latin America and former director of the Washington Times; doctor Bacchus-Horan, President and CEO of Dawn’s Designer Collection of Trinidad and Tobago, Rolando González former president of the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica, among others.
The event began on Thursday evening with a special session in the Legislative Assembly where legislators welcomed Costa Rican leaders and representatives of the Federation for Universal Peace. At the same time, an opening Plenary was held at the hotel.
