The Ministry of Healh has punished 719 establishments for having mosquito, breeding sites

So far this year, the Ministry of Health has issued 719 health orders to different establishments for misusing their wastes.

The sites were punished because mosquito breeding sites were found, which increases the risk of the spread of diseases such as zika, dengue and chikungunya.

These diseases has affected more than 23,000 people across the country.

Most patients have one out of the 3 dengue serotypes circulating in the country. 18,951 people are infected with dengue virus and most of them are in the central region of Alajuela, where 3,211 cases were registered. Other provinces with more than a thousand cases are:

Atenas: 1372.
Quepos: 1,053.
Perez Zeledon 1,828.
Puntarenas: 1,143.

According to the last report, presented on October 26th, during this year there have been 108 pregnant women who suffer or suffered from zika virus. In addition, there are still 12 probable cases.

It was also reported that 1,044 protection kits for pregnant women have been delivered in vulnerable cantons.

The most effective way to fight mosquito diseases are within reach:

-Clean canoes, jars, pots and other containers that can collect water.
-Get rid of tires, keep flowers in land.
-Protect yourself from mosquito bites by using repellents and mosquito nets.
