The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) released the Annual Report 2016.

Gustavo Mata, Security Minister explained that in the coming months, the institution will hire 1,500 police officers.

Our goal is to work from now on. We do not know if the Constitutional Court will approve the budget, since an appeal was presented,

declared the minister.

The resources (about 48 billion colones) for these hirings were obtained after a cutback made to the budget of the National Board of Childhood (PANI).

Mata explained that deputy minister Bernardita Marín, is focused on preparing the recruitment processes.

On the other hand, Mata affirmed that the new National Police School, located in Pococí, would be ready by the middle of the year.

In addition, the ministry is committed to acquire maritime and air equipment to improve the fight against drug trafficking.
