The most dangerous areas of Costa Rica were revealed

The Observatory of Violence from the Vice Ministry of Peace presented the second Catalog Record: Atlas of crime 2016, where the areas with more robberies, rapes and homicides were revealed.

The data were provided by the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) and they are presented through districts.

According to Jairo Vargas, director of the General Directorate for the Promotion of Peace and Citizen Coexistence (DIGEPAZ), these data allow authorities to visualize the main places where crimes take place to develop actions and strengthen crime prevention.

Homicide: Acapulco de Puntarenas
The figures reveal that 20 out of 10,000 inhabitants of the district of Acapulco, located in Puntarenas, filed a complaint for intentional homicide, this district presented the most complaints in the whole national territory.

Assaults, thefts and robberies: El Carmen in San José
The district of El Carmen in San José is the place with the highest number of complaints due to assaults and robberies.

Rapes: San Pedro de Turrubares
San Pedro de Turrubares has the highest number of complaints on sexual assaults. 12 for every 10,000 inhabitants have filed a complaint on that matter.
