The National Customs Service has held tons of goods since October 2015

November 8, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The National Customs Service has held several tons of goods since October 2015 due to several irregularities.

This action is the result of a management plan started by the Monitoring of Customs Division in 2015. As a result, it was possible to stop the entry of goods, mostly online purchases, from companies which have not paid taxes and other permits of law. In addition, these goods were brought by companies that were not authorized by authorities to offer this kind of service.

These companies have 1,561 full parcel packages with dimensions of approximately 62 cubic feet each, for a total weight of 27,103 kilos.

To avoid paying taxes, the parcel was declared at the time of import as “other goods” (household goods, spare parts and accessories, among others).

Furthermore, it was not paid correctly, especially the one that requires special permits for import, as in the case of perfumes, cosmetics, human foodstuffs, food supplements, sex toys, chemicals and animal feed, which must have a health permit.

Last week, an unregistered company was reported to the Public Ministry for alleged evasion of 41 million colones.
