November 23, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Storm Otto left and 4 people died in Panama. As part of the emergency, the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) opened the Canal’s 14 lock-gates in order to keep the lake with a safe amount of water.

According to local media reports, this is done to guarantee the safety of surrounding communities.

Jorge Luis Quijano, ACP administrator, reported via Twitter that transit operations are as regular.

The official website of the Canal explained that this measure is conducted as part of the monitoring of the climatological situation.
