The Treasury allegedly puts obstacles to import electric vehicles

August 1, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The Costa Rican Association of Electric Mobility (Asomove) denounced that the Treasury would be disrespecting the Comptroller’s decision and charges VAT on electric vehicles.

The Electric Mobility Law, signed last year, defined the exemption of 13% of General Sales Tax (IGV) on new electric vehicles for five years, among other things.

With Law 9635 on Strengthening Public Finances, the Treasury requested the legal technical criteria of the Attorney General’s Office regarding the interpretation that the exemptions to the IGV contemplated in any related law are tacitly repealed.

On July 4th, this entity resolved to keep those incentives alive, which the Treasury is not be applying, apparently.
