The United States donated $1 million in special equipment for Air Surveillance

January 20, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The US government donated 1 million dollars in special equipment, training, maintenance and spare parts for King Air F90 aircraft, from the Air Surveillance Service (SVA).

Such contribution was awarded this morning by Stafford Haney Fitzgerald, US ambassador in Costa Rica, who said he has always admired the work of Costa Rican authorities.

The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) awarded the “Honorary Wings” distinction to the ambassador for the support provided during his tenure.

Gustavo Mata, Security Minister, thanked the US government’s aid and used the opportunity to ask for more help for the MSP, which requires more personnel to fight crime and drug trafficking.

The King Air F90 has been used in the fight against drug trafficking, humanitarian and operational missions, as well as environmental protection.

The aircraft has the ability to fly higher, up to 25,000 feet, allowing for more speed and greater capacity.

This aircraft was confiscated on December 16th 2013 by the Drug Control Police (PCD) at the airport Pandora Valle de La Estrella in Limón.

That day, two Guatemalans -father and son- were arrested with two tons of cocaine.
