The younger you start to consume alcohol, the greater the risk to your health

November 8, 2016 by Staff News Writer

EDUCALCOHOL emphasized that it is the right time to call for prevention and to report on the risks of starting to consume alcohol at an early age.

They pointed out that the fact that an adolescent initiates his/her regular consumption before the age of 14, increases 4.5 times the risk of drinking in a harmful way during the adult life, compared to a young person who begins to drink at 21 years old.

Group pressure at parties, imitation, curiosity and the search for relaxation or escape, are some of the reasons that teenagers use to justify their drinking habits.

As the end of the school year approaches, many young people take the opportunity to organize parties in which excess of alcohol and other drugs are sadly common.

According to data from the Costa Rican Institute of Drugs (ICD), this year they knew about 7 parties. the ICD managed to cancel 4 of them and the other 3 were intervened by the Public Force.
