There are four confirmed cases of malaria in Limón

June 6, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The Ministry of Health confirmed four cases of malaria in the country, specifically in Pacuare and Villa del Mar, both located in Limón, confirmed the director of Health Surveillance, Rodrigo Marín.

Marín, through a press release, indicated that the four cases are related to two Costa Ricans who came from a South American country where there is malaria transmission and later traveled to the city of Limón.

There, two other people would have contracted the disease after arriving in the country.

According to the health authorities, they are three men and a woman between the ages of 25 and 48, who were found to have malaria. In addition, Health officials report that patients remain out of danger and in constant control at Tony Facio Hospital.

They also announced that the Ministry of Health, together with the Costa Rican Social Security Fund, maintain the necessary measures in order to avoid more cases in the province of Limón.

To alleviate the situation, they look for relatives or close friends of the infected people in order to rule out that they also have the parasite on their bodies.

Finally, they announce massive fumigations throughout the sector where there is malaria with the aim of eliminating new cases.
