There will be a vigil outside the Embassy of Nicaragua on Thursday

June 20, 2018 by Staff News Writer

On Thursday night there will be a vigil outside the Embassy of Nicaragua, in San José, as a sign of solidarity with this country that has already experienced two months of violent protests.

The activity will begin at 6:00 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m., reported a group of human rights organizations from different parts of Nicaragua that are in Costa Rica, in charge of the event.

The objective, they said, is

to make visible and strengthen support networks in the face of the current crisis in the country.”

They also indicated that they come with a list of purposes, including calling the international community to condemn repression and violence.

The human rights defenders also try to make visible the reality of different departments of Nicaragua, for which they will approach the media.

On April 18th, Nicaragua completed two months of having started a strong confrontation between the government and the opposition, which already leaves about 180 dead, according to the latest count. While a sector of the town asks for the exit of the president, Daniel Ortega, he opposes and international organizations denounce “serious violations” to human rights.
