These municipalities will apply the Prohibition in Easter

April 16, 2019 by Staff News Writer

Ten municipalities will apply the “Prohibition” during Easter. The information was confirmed by the National Union of Local Governments (UNGL) in a press release.

The local governments that will prohibit the sale of liquor are: Alajuelita, Alvarado, Cañas, Cartago, El Guarco, Esparza, Goicoechea, San Isidro de Heredia, La Unión and Turrialba.

The UNGL said that 71 municipalities will not join this decision to prohibit the commercialization of alcoholic beverages. They even mentioned that there are fewer and fewer that accept the decision, in 2018 there were 12 municipalities.

According to Karen Porras Arguedas, executive director of the UNGL, Law No. 9047 of Regulation and Marketing of Alcoholic Beverages, allowing the sale of liquors is the exclusive power of each Municipal Council, thus strengthening the autonomy of local governments.
