November 14, 2018 by Staff News Writer

A Costa Rican and a Spaniard were arrested on Monday by members of the Bolivarian National Guard at the Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, Venezuela, after the authorities discovered they were carrying two gold ingots whose weight exceeded three kilograms.

According to Venezuelan media, officers of the Special Anti-Drug Unit in the town of Vargas noticed that the subjects identified as José Manuel García Moreno (Spanish) and Rivera Blanco (Costa Rican) carried two strange objects when passing their carry-on luggage through the X-ray machine.

The Tico and the Spanish intended to board the flight 8595 of the Estelar airline to Madrid, Spain.

The gold ingots had a weight of 1 kilo 778 grams and 1 kilo 656 grams each, which adds up to a total of 3 kilograms 434 grams, but the maximum limit that can be transported in Venezuela is 285 grams, equivalent to 10 thousand dollars.
