Trade unionists demonstrated against the 1% increase in IVM

May 22, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Workers of the union of the National Association of Public Employees (ANEP) met on Monday morning to protest outside the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) against a 1% increase in quotas to support the pensions of the Disability, Old Age and Death regime (IVM).

The demonstration took place on Avenida Segunda.

This increase will take effect from June 1st and the different unions seek to reverse this decision.

A similar demonstration was held on May 18th and trade union representatives said they will continue to oppose the increase, as well as the increase in the age to retire (70).

On that day, the Costa Rican Trade Union and Social Unity Block (Bussco) and the Confederación de Trabajadores Rerum Novarum (CTRN) submitted a formal request to the CCSS to suspend the increase.
