Train derails near the Municipality of San José

March 7, 2017 by Staff News Writer

A few hours ago, a mechanical failure caused the train to derail near El Mayoreo Market, behind the Municipality of San José. Therefore, the road is closed in both directions, causing the services delay.

According to the report of the authorities, an official from INCOFER had to receive medical attention, since she got injured in the event. However, her condition is stable.

According to María Fernanda Arias, a spokeswoman for the Costa Rican Railways Institute (INCOFER), they are not aware of the causes of the derailment and they are trying to remove the wagon from the road, which hinders the passage of vehicles.

For now, all the services in Belén remain suspended until the Stations, Pacific, Pavas and Curridabat.
