Tropical wave wreaked havoc in several sectors

On Wednesday, tropical wave number 7 caused several incidents in different sectors of the country.

In total, the National Emergency Commission (CNE) reported 50 incidents which were dealt with in coordination with the various Municipal Emergency Committees (CME).

The emergency authorities responded to the call of 33 communities that were heavily affected by the floods. The areas affected by these incidents were Aserrí, Buenos Aires, Cañas, Cartago, Curridabat, Desamparados, Goicoechea, Grecia, La Cruz, Pococí, San Carlos, Santo Domingo, Sarapiquí, and Turrialba.

In addition, landslides occurred in Curridabat, Desamparados, Goicoechea, La Cruz, Pérez Zeledón and Poás.

According to Sigifredo Pérez, Chief of Operations of the CNE, the Central Valley was the sector where the rains hit hardest. Pérez also indicated that the shelter opened in Upala at the beginning of the week remains open.

At the moment the CMEs are making the assessments in the different points impacted to then prepare the reports.
