Trump announces that Boeings 737 MAX 8 and MAX 9 will remain on the ground in the US

March 14, 2019 by Staff News Writer

President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday a plan to land all Boeing 737 MAX 8 and MAX 9 aircrafts in the United States, amid heavy pressure after the second fatal accident of one of these aircraft in the past five months.

We will issue an emergency ban on all 737 MAX 8 and 737 MAX 9 flights,”

Trump told reporters at the White House.

The pilots have been informed, the airlines have been informed,” he added. “The safety of Americans and all passengers is our top priority.”

Trump’s decision comes after one of these Boeing models crashed in Ethiopia on Sunday, in an accident that killed 157 people. In October, a Boeing 737 MAX 8 from Lion Air crashed into the Indonesian sea, killing the 189 people on board.

After the new accident, Australia, China, India, the European Union and other countries closed their airspace to the Boeing plane in the last hours, and numerous airlines immobilized their fleet of these models.
