Trump threatens to close border with Mexico due to immigrant caravan

October 18, 2018 by Staff News Writer

On Thursday, President Donald Trump threatened to close the US border with Mexico if Mexico does not block the flow of migrants from Central America, at a time when a caravan of thousands of Hondurans is moving north.

I must, in the strongest terms, ask Mexico to stop this, and if it fails to do so, I will call the military and I WILL CLOSE OUR SOUTHERN BORDER!”

tweeted Trump.

The threat comes less than three weeks after mid-term elections in which Republicans risk losing the majority in Congress.

I see the attack led by the Democratic Party (because they want open borders and the weak existing laws) against our country with Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, whose leaders do little to stop this great flow of people, INCLUDING MANY CRIMINALS,”

said Trump.

On Tuesday, Trump threatened the leaders of Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador to end the financial aid that Washington grants them, if they do not stop the caravan. The President added that this issue is much more important to him as president than the new agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada (AMEUC).

The caravan departed on Saturday from San Pedro Sula, in northern Honduras, after a call made through social networks.
