Trump’s conversation with Guaidó

January 31, 2019 by Staff News Writer

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump phoned the self-proclaimed interim president of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, to congratulate him on his historic inauguration and to offer him all his support, according to the White House.

They both

agreed to maintain regular communication to support Venezuela’s path towards stability and to rebuild the bilateral relationship between the United States and Venezuela,”

added the statement.

I appreciate the call of the president of the United States, Donald Trump (…), who reiterated full support for our democratic work, commitment to humanitarian aid, and recognition of his administration to our presidency in charge,”

tweeted Guaidó.

Earlier, without referring to a phone conversation with Guaidó, Trump said on Twitter that Maduro would be willing to negotiate with the opposition after the sanctions imposed by Washington on state oil company PDVSA, which practically the only source of income for the South American country.

Guaidó is being attacked by the Supreme Court of Venezuela. A massive protest is expected today. Americans should not travel to Venezuela until further notice,”

added the president.

Trump referred to an open investigation against Guaidó, by which the Supreme Court of Justice -of the ruling party line- banned him from leaving the country and froze his assets and accounts.
