Turrialba volcano does not sleep

Turrialba volcano did not sleep on Sunday, according to a detailed new report from the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica National University (OVSICORI-A).

The colossus

has presented intermittent ash emissions”

and the eruption reported at 11:08 a.m. was in progress until 5:00 p.m.

The ashes reached 700 meters high in the brief moments that clouds allowed to observe the emissions.

Almost all this time the crater visibility was poor due to weather conditions, a lot of clouds…”

reads the report.

Predominant wind direction was southwest and west, affecting areas like Coronado, Guadalupe, Sabanilla de Montes de Oca, Curridabat, Moravia and Heredia.
