Turrialba’s emissions have not stopped for almost 2 months

November 9, 2016 by Staff News Writer

November 13th will mark exactly two months since Turrialba volcano began a new period of eruption. The emanation has remained constant, with small pauses to regain strength.

Floribeth Vega, an expert from the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI), reported that ash columns do not exceed one thousand meters high.

The wind kept heading south, which indicates that part of Cartago, Pacayas and some places of Turrialba can receive ashfall,”

said Vega.

Residents of San José, Curridabat and Tres Ríos have reported ash in those areas.

Vega stressed the importance of taking protective measures, especially for those suffering from allergies or respiratory problems.
