Turrialba’s first eruption in 2017

January 2, 2017 by Staff News Writer

As not to lose the habit, Turrialba Volcano erupted for the first time this year on January 1st.

The video cameras of the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI), which are installed a few meters from the top of the colossus, registered the first eruption of the year.

Gino González, from the Volcanoes without Borders organization, reported that there has been a lot of seismicity and ashfall with plumes that reached up to 600 meters high.
