Two Americans pleaded guilty of creating a sports betting network in Costa Rica

January 24, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Two Americans accepted conspiracy offenses and pleaded guilty of creating a sport betting network based in Costa Rica.

The charges were accepted by Christopher U. Anthony and Russell B. Miller, who agreed to pay a $ 25,000 bond while waiting for a sentence in April.

The case was first reported in Gulfport, Mississippi.

The subjects are exposed to a sentence of 2 years of jail and a fine of $ 250,000. Apparently, both visited Costa Rica on several occasions to check the operation of the betting network they set up.

They worked along with Kenneth Schmitt, a bookmaker, who pleaded guilty in December. He remains on bail while the sentence is known in March.

Currently, the American Betting Association wants the authorities from that country to be more flexible on sports bets. According to the group, this will discourage people from conducting illegal activities.

In Costa Rica online sports betting sites are not illegal, however, they are in the US.
