Two men rescued from shipwreck in Nicoya

May 21, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Two men traveling on the Leidy 1 boat were rescued on Saturday night on the high seas by the National Coast Guard.

According to Carlos Hidalgo, a spokesman for the Ministry of Security,

at 5:50 p.m. a man called 9-1-1 asking for help because his boat was sinking.”

The incident occurred just over seven kilometers southwest of Puerto Caldera, near Isla Guayabo, in the Gulf of Nicoya.

There, the authorities rescued Chàvez González and Álvarez Ledezma and managed to get the boat afloat.

The Fire Department reported that a naval unit went to the reported site, however, they did not spot anyone there.
