Uber and Nova drivers create a union

April 20, 2018 by Staff News Writer

A group of 237 drivers working with different transport technology platforms, such as Uber and Nova, met on Wednesday to create the non-profit association National Chamber of Technology Platform Drivers, which will be known as CANACONTEC.

According to its founders, the purpose of this chamber will be the defense of the rights of all drivers of digital platforms before the companies and the State.

The first objective of the group will be to mediate with Carlos Alvarado to repeal the executive decree signed by Luis Guillermo Solís in which it is ordered to prosecute and punish the drivers of technological platforms.

According to the grouping, the platforms must comply with:

1. Tax payment for companies and drivers

2. Payment of an operating fee to the MOPT

3. RITEVE twice a year

4. Insured units

5. Payment of insurance to the CCSS

All of the above to compete directly with taxi services, but in fair conditions.

The creation of defense and rapid response cell was also approved for the provinces of Alajuela, Cartago, Heredia and San José that would be in charge of supporting drivers in danger. A firm will be in charge of advising the union members.

In addition, they are currently in talks with the Association of Free Consumers, to join efforts in defense of the use of technology transport platforms.

The new entity is open to receive new members through the email camaranac.conductorespritec@gmail.com
