Unions announce a strike for the first week of September

August 23, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Most unions in the country met on Monday to set the date for a general strike that would be scheduled for the first week of September.

The aim of the event is exposing their discontent with the bills for public employment, wage freeze and the creation of new taxes.

This is the largest trade union meeting inter recent years, the number of leaders here covers 80% of public services that are threatened,”

said Albino Vargas, from the union Patria Justa.

For now, the unions are still struggling to choose the day of the protest, which would take place the first days of September.

We are trying to define the best day and the best political circumstances to go with a strong message to put away projects that have to do with public employment and to pass laws to stop the tax theft,”

said Vargas.
