Unions propose salary readjustment of 3% for second semester

July 17, 2017 by Staff News Writer

On Monday, the Unified Union and Costarican Social Unity Block (Bussco) handed to Juan Alfaro, deputy minister of Labor and Social Security, a proposal that includes a new salary readjustment formula for the public sector, corresponding to the second half of 2017.

The proposal aims to eliminate the lag in the current methodology and includes variables of past inflation, projected inflation and consumption taxes.

In order for workers to recover the 1% salary reduction agreed by the Board of Directors of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS), as an increase in the workers’ quota to the Disability, Old Age and Death Regime, it is included as one more variable to recover the wage loss,”

said Bussco.

According to the union, the government representatives promised to analyze it and present their counter-proposal before the next meeting of the Wages Commission.
