United Kingdom wants to strengthen relations with Central America after Brexit

December 13, 2016 by Staff News Writer

During a tour in the region, British Foreign Minister Joyce Anelay declared in Guatemala that her country wants to strengthen relations with Central America and Mexico after the United Kingdom’s decision to leave the European Union.

The diplomat stated that her country is committed to keep working with its international partners.

She stressed that London wants to reinforce its commitment to achieve peace, security, as well as strengthening the system based on international rules.

The diplomat also urged Guatemala and Belize, a British excolony, to resolve an old territorial dispute before the International Court of Justice.

During her one-day visit, the European diplomat held a series of high-level meetings with Guatemalan, government officials, members of the civil society, the business community and international organizations.
