Universities demonstrate against assaults on women in the UCR

May 21, 2017 by Staff News Writer

On Monday, a group of students from the University of Costa Rica (UCR) will mobilize to demand better security in the facilities of that education facility, after reports of assaults on women in the last few weeks.

The security staff of the UCR implemented a plan that gave results last Thursday when two subjects were arrested after committing the crimes.

According to Madi Soto, one of the organizers, the idea is to ask for more university security officers and more lightning on campus trails.

On Thursday, we saw what happened, so we decided to take actions and we got organized to request measures such as installing more lighting because there are many areas that are dark. This marks a precedent of insecurity for us and it is not fair that we should walk in fear in the university,”

said Soto.

The activity will leave the parapet and will reach the president’s office to make requests from 11 a.m.

The last victim also seems to have been sexually abused, so students have a greater concern.

Since April 19th about six cases of crimes against women were reported in the UCR.
