University denies buying and selling diplomas

September 8, 2016 by Staff News Writer

After the raids conducted in San Francisco de Dos Ríos campus at the Universidad de San José for alleged sales of diplomas, the institution categorically rejected this issue, but on Wednesday the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) declared that the diplomas were sold in 3 to 5 million colones each.

Authorities presume that the sold diplomas are master’s degrees and bachelor’s degrees in Law, Nutrition, Accounting, Business Administration and Education.

We have collaborated with the authorities and will will continue to do so. We will not oppose to provide the information that the Public Ministry needs for the investigation. Our students and graduates can confirm that the University of San Jose is a prestigious institution,”

said Angelica Lopez, spokeswoman for the university.

The National Council of Higher Private University Education (CONESUP) explained that if found guilty, the university could be closed for a year.
