USA audits Costa Rican meat exporters

May 24, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the United States Department of Agriculture and Livestock, represented by Nader Memarian, is performing an audit on four establishments processing products and by-products of our animal origin in Costa Rica.

This procedure runs from May 15th to 26th.

The objective of the visit is to verify the work that the National Animal Health Service (SENADA) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock executes with these exporting plants, through the Department of Animal Products Safety (DIPOA), in charge of regulating the health and safety of food of animal origin for the protection of human health.

It is also verified that the meat food safety system continues to maintain a level of health protection to ensure that products exported to the United States are safe, unadulterated and properly labeled.

The audit will be based on the regulations and requirements needed by FSIS, such as surveillance of animal diseases, sanitation, slaughter or processing and residues of veterinary drugs, among others.

The official results of this audit will be sent to SENASA, once analyzed by FSIS.
