Used electric vehicles will not pay selective consumption tax

November 8, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Used electric vehicles that are more than five years old will not pay the 30% tax on the selective consumption tax. The exoneration was announced on Wednesday morning by the First Lady of the Republic, Claudia Dobles Camargo.

The plan is part of a strategy of the Executive Power to encourage the use of this type of automotive among the population and government institutions. The initiative was materialized through the signing of four decrees and a directive signed by President Carlos Alvarado.

The first lady explained that the purpose of the measure is to encourage the purchase of this type of vehicle among the middle class. The architect stressed that the exemption will be only for cars that do not exceed the cost of $30 thousand in customs.

In addition, she mentioned that these vehicles will be exempt from vehicular restriction and that they will be able to park in spaces marked in blue within public and private parking.

In addition to this plan, Doubles issued a guideline so that public institutions purchase electric cars or zero emission vehicles, to promote sustainable mobility among state officials.
